HARVEST FAMILY VILLAGE

Harvest Family Village is set on a 20 acre piece of land on the outskirts of Bulawayo. There we have three homes with up to 11 children in each house.

The fourth house has been built and we are waiting for registration to be able to open it to more children.

ACCESS TO EDUCATION

Access to education is a key right we believe all children should be entitled to.

Our children attend local schools and are actively engaged in extra-curricular activities (such as horse-riding, sports, church choir) which are vital for their growth and development.

Our aim is to establish a nurturing residential environment in small family units alongside psychosocial support for children and young adults who have been orphaned or are vulnerable.

OUR PROJECTS

On the land we have developed a market garden which includes three large polytunnels and a small orchard.

We are able to produce most of the vegetables and the maize for the needs of the village and have excess to both give to those in need in our local community and sell some to cover our expenses.

We also have a variety of animals including pigs, goats, rabbits, chickens and fish. These primarily are for consumption but have become a key part of the therapeutic life for the children. So much so that we had to give over a section for the children to keep pigs as pets as they refused to eat the ones they had named!!

The children help out in with the farming projects as when the youngsters leave us, they need to be independent and self-sufficient with all the necessary life skills and a basic knowledge of farming.

We need to empower them to have a strong work ethic and become productive members in the community.
